Facts about Silver

We craft your beautiful charms out of silver, but how much do we really know about it? Well here are some interesting facts about our favourite precious metal….

For instance, did you know that the words for silver and money are the same in at least fourteen languages?

And would you believe that a 5kg bar of silver costs in excess of £4,000 … that’s the equivalent of 114 of our charms!

And here’s a strange fact – throughout the ages, silver jewellery has been associated with magical powers; believed to promote healing, bring good luck and for warding off evil spirits to the wearer!

The term ‘born with a silver spoon in his mouth’ didn’t initially mean wealth but health.  For centuries silver was thought to heal and children that were fed from a silver spoon were believed to be healthier. Now in many US hospitals, silver is used to help skin re-growth as it promotes the production of new cells.

My, how you’ve grown…
Silver prices have sky rocketed over the last decade.

In 2002 silver cost on average 4.59 USD per ounce

5 years later, it cost on average 13.38 USD per ounce

And at the end of 2011, prices for the year were on average 35.1 USD per ounce

That means that in the last decade silver has increased by a whopping  665% to £22 per ounce at the end of 2011.
